RCPF Helps Youth Carve Decoys at Pheasant Fest.

Date: Sunday, February 19, 2017

Minneapolis was again host to the National Pheasant Fest & Quail Classic this past weekend!  The Ramsey County Chapter of Pheasants Forever helped the Minnesota Decoy and Wildfowl Carving Club staff the booth and teach youth how to carve a bufflehead decoy.

On the opening day, Friday, approximately 95 youth came through and learned how to carve a duck decoy using 3" rigid foam with pine bottom boards and painted with acrylics.  Saturday the lid blew off as we had approximately 220 youth come through - cracking out over 24 decoys per hour!!  Sunday things calmed down a little as another 85 youth made decoys before we ran out of decoy kits with about 1 hour left of the show.  400 decoys total were made at what many consider the most popular youth attraction at Pheasant Fest.

Thanks to the Minnesota Decoy and Wildfowl Carving Club for allowing us to participate in such a rewarding event!
